Walgreens Mobile App
Starting any new therapy or routine can be daunting, confusing, and ultimately stressful. Together with our Walgreens partner, we set out to build an experience that calms nerves and eases patients into their new prescriptions. This easy-to-use program called New To Therapy (NTT) is loaded with daily support and motivation.
Designing iteratively and collaboratively in real-time with our Walgreens partner has been key—especially with NTT being our third major release to the Walgreens. From the brief, to user experience (UX) reviews, and content framework sessions, using InVision Freehand has been critical to our success.
Having previously built this product from the atomic level, the visual design team and I had a large tool chest of patterns and styles to use from the get go. With NTT there were opportunities to expand the brand language with newly designed illustrations as well as components, inputs, and data visuals.
Prior to Walgreens patients picking up their new prescriptions they are introduced to NTT via multiple entry points (i.e. gateway, prescriptions) throughout the app. After reading through some marketing features, patients have an opportunity to opt in to NTT.
After picking up a prescription, patients are advanced to the onboarding process. They still have an opportunity to opt in to NTT, but have access to relevant videos on how to administer their prescriptions, set reminders, and marketing information.
The core of NTT lies in adherence. Patients are able to log their feelings daily, unlock and track their entries, receive encouraging words of support, find care, and more. An entire program of patient content was created from Day 0 to Day 30 and beyond. I was responsible for overseeing the design of this journey.
Capturing patient inputs required a user interface equal parts fun and intuitive. I designed this feelings tracker with a slight arc to mirror the natural curvature of a finger’s swipe. The range of colors correlated with a patient’s mood and haptic feedback was also built in.
The design of the feelings tracker was probably the most challenging feature of NTT. Our team explored numerous versions ranging from circular rings, tappable quadrants, and others. User research discovered the most easily understood pattern for patients was a slider.
Data visuals are always a treat. The trends graph needed to live in a variety of ways ranging from a marketing teaser, an overview, and in fullscreen. Accessibility (WCAG AA, AAA) was also a major player in the final design.
A final piece to the adherence journey included a tips and advice section. Patients can access videos as well as relevant articles and recipes. I designed the articles page with a hierarchical structure while giving all recipes some prominence.
